I’m sharing specific songs from my life that hold a permanent place in my heart. If I were to present a mixtape to everyone that would attend my funeral, it would likely contain these songs. These won’t come in any particular order; I’ve got an ever-expanding playlist that I’ll be pulling from.
They just don’t make music like this anymore. This is one of thousands of songs that I discovered via WBER, a local non-commercial, listener-supported, radio station. Visit their site, check their playlists, and listen to their stream; I think you’ll find that they really are deserving of their self-assigned moniker: The Only Station That Matters.
If I could go back to 1995 and bury a time capsule, I’d definitely include this album because it perfectly defines the attitude and sound of all that was great about music in the early-to-mid-90s, before record labels and genres started merging into conglomerations of trash and uninteresting cookie-cutter bands.
It’s rare in this day and age that you’ll find a band that seems to have fallen off the face of the planet. There is no doubt that they broke up sometime around 1999, but the real shocker is that there seems to be absolutely no online presence aside from an abandoned MySpace page. Not even Google has much to offer for Poole, but to be honest, I’m OK with that; it makes it all the more nostalgic to pull out the Alaska Days CD and enjoy the pop-rock sweetness.
