GPOYPF.
This is Popcorn. She lives with Jessica (my ex), who adopted her in early 2007. I put up quite a fight. I didn’t think she needed a dog at the time. She called me over one night and said she had a surprise; I knew what I was gonna find when I got there, and I was right. I shouted, I yelled, I argued. Popcorn wasn’t what I had traditionally looked for in a dog. She was shorthaired, streamlined, and greyhound-ish, but I’ve always been a fan of beagles. Something amazing happened that night. While I was standing there, being a total ass to Jessica, Popcorn (she came with that name, it fits perfectly) seduced me. I sat in the kitchen, arguing with Jessica, and Popcorn walked right up to me, set her chin on my knee, and looked up at me with her big brown eyes. I looked down at her, shocked that she could be so bold as to try to snuggle me when I was clearly upset, and in an instant was born an unconditional love.
I’ve never had a dog. My mom cleaned houses for a job and as such, she is a total neat-freak. Pet hair in our house? Not a chance. The closest thing I had to a real pet was a goldfish that I named Deadhead (not a Grateful Dead reference). That fish lived alone in a tank for 7 years; that is still pretty amazing to me. So, Popcorn is really my first pet, even though she’s not officially my dog. Thankfully I get some visitation rights - my life would suck without this dog.
This is a picture of one of the better times we had (they were ALL good times) - in the car on the way home from the dog park. Jessica never liked me to put the window down too far, even though we had Popcorn well secured in the backseat (and really, when was the last time you heard of a dog jumping out the window of a moving car?), but this day I broke the rules and put the window down far enough that she could stick her whole head out the window. Combine that with my love for point and shoot cameras and you get this picture. I stuck my hand out the window and blindly shot backwards, grabbing this shot. It’s my favorite picture of her: clearly happy as the air blows across her face, flapping her ears in the wind.

(BTW… the unlimited burst shooting mode on Panasonic cameras is absolutely fantastic.)
