Seven 9s and 10s

Here’s some A-10 badassery for G and Steve. This was a fun day at work, where you get to experience something few others have - standing a few feet away while they fire the 30mm cannon all day. This is a two-second burst. 3900 rounds a minute, or 65 rounds per second. That’s a nice tank you have there. Be a shame if something happened to it.

46th AMXS, Eglin AFB, FL

A few things:

  • It’s becoming increasingly clear that I may have chosen the wrong career path.
  • It says a lot about our current enemies that the threat of lead raining down from their skies isn’t enough to make them think twice about their career paths.
  • The thing that most impresses me about this video is the fact that four of the five humans that appear on screen don’t move a single muscle when that cannon erupts. Watch it again. Look at that guy in the back with his hands on his hips. I don’t know a thing about that guy but I think he should be our nation’s next president.
  • I sleep very well at night knowing a portion of my tax dollars goes towards that beautiful machine.
  • That sound, man. That sound.

nobody died friday tuesday #64: B-17 Flying Fortress “Liberty Belle”, Oswego, near Chicago, June 13th 2011
The Liberty Belle Foundation website appears to be down at the moment. Extremely sad news for all involved in the restoration/maintenance/fundraising/love for this bird over the years

This is terrible. I’m happy there were no injuries, but there are not many B-17s left on this earth, and now only 14 are airworthy. It’s truly a tragic loss of one of the greatest aircraft ever built.
Hopefully some parts will be salvaged from this crash that can benefit other B-17s that are in the process of restoration.

High-res Concorde (by steelopus)
The NASM Udvar-Hazy Center is fantastic, albeit extremely cramped. It makes it quite challenging to take photos in which your subject isn’t completely lost in the noise or doesn’t have background objects jutting out from all sides.
Photographic challenges aside, Concorde is truly one of the most beautiful machines humans have ever developed.
(Published manually, 21 hours late, because Tumblr’s queue is still completely unreliable.)
