“In The Meantime” is a legitimately wonderful song, with a magnificently acrobatic bassline and that piledriver guitar that defined ’90s Brit-rock. But the irresistible hook is the wordless, joyous vocal line that climbs and dives immediately after the intro. Hearing it again made me leap to my feet and seize an entire roomful by the collar, demanding to finally know who was responsible.

This song is amazing. Look, if it isn’t obvious already: I’m a total sucker for a great bridge. I believe that a totally flat verse and a flatter chorus can always be saved by a great bridge and a strong return from it. Not to say that this song is flat in any respect - but the bridge sells that shit.
