Back in the late 90s this song resonated with me. I hadn’t yet realized that Rochester is one of the best places a person could choose to live.
Now I just think it’s a really pretty song.

You know it’s just like Judas said:
“I been your right hand man all along.
“My admiration for you hasn’t died.
“I haven’t forgotten how put down we are.”
This song makes me feel ways about Moogs.
Editing to add: I fell asleep listening to Jesus Christ Superstar and woke up with this song in my head. You win this round, Matt Sharp. Well played.

File under: subtle production and mixing.
There is so much going on in this song, bubbling just beneath the surface. Like so much of the blue album, it’s the barely-audible acoustic guitar that adds immeasurably to the final mix of the song. It’s in there the whole time, but it’s not until it finally fades back to a noticeable level during the outro solo that you realize it.
Also note that this is one of Patrick Wilson’s best drum performances. It’s the sort of slow and steady grooving that made Return of the Rentals so good.
Overall, the song manages to sound and feel huge and heavy while still being entirely weightless. That takes significant effort in both production and mixing.
I talked for hours to your wallet photograph
and you just listened.
Incredibly, it was removed completely from weezer’s setlists following the blue album tours in 1995 and it didn’t return until their first blue album Memories show on 11/26/2010. That’s 15 years - and it’s longer than millions of their newest fans have even been alive.

Before Cherielynn Westrich scared me with her frequent appearances on TLC Network’s Overhaulin, she aroused me by playing a Moog and singin’ all pretty and stuff.
