iTunes tells me I listened to it thirteen times in a row last night; it felt like one.

I absent mindedly forgot to wish a happy birthday to Petra Haden’s triplet-sisters yesterday. Here’s Petra and Rachel kicking ass and taking names.

I can’t mention my love for Cherie without also mentioning my love for the other voice of The Rentals, Petra Haden.

But where Petra really shined was in that dog., along with her sister Rachel and Anna Waronker.  Not only were they the best female rock band of the 90s, I’d say they were one of the best bands, period, of the decade. No band had better harmonies.

Fronted by Anna Waronker and supported by Rachel Haden (bass) and Petra Haden (violin) (two of the triplet daughters of the great jazz bassist Charlie Haden) and Tony Maxwell on drums, that dog. wasn’t just another mid-90’s girl band, they brought something unique to the table with quirky rock, gorgeous harmonies, and vioin solos.

This song, from their second album, is one of my favorites.
